Joining a mushroom foray.....

I've listed groups and organisations who arrange forays or other educational activities that will help you learn about mushrooms. Please bear in mind that some (especially fungus groups and study groups) are concerned with surveying and recording fungi, and that "collecting for the pot" may be discouraged. Please respect the leaders' wishes.

The list is obviously not exhaustive and there are many other contacts to pursue that I have not included, mainly due to lack of space and time. I'd suggest that you try the following:

The Wildlife Trusts
there are 44 local groups. The publicity department (01636 677711) used to compile a list of all fungus related events, if they do not still do so they will be able to put you in touch with your local group directly.

Forest Enterprise
many of the regions run fungi forays as part of their activity programmes. They are particularly strong in the north of England and Scotland, but also run forays in the New Forest. Call 0131 334 0303 for details of your nearest district office.

The National Trust
some of the properties run organised forays as part of their activity programmes. Call 0870 458 4000 for details.

Local natural history and botanical societies
well worth a try. Your library or leisure/continuing education department of your local authority should be able to put you in touch.

Leisure departments
of some country councils and local authorities publish "What's on" leaflets for their area - I've seen several which list forays.

If you are organising an event or supply a product or service that would be suitable for inclusion, please email details to us. There is no charge for listings.

Good Hunting!
