Getting to Prévasy
The easiest way of getting to Prévasy from England is probably by overnight ferry and car. Brittany Ferries (tel: 0990 360 360) operate services from Portsmouth to St Malo (about 2 hour's drive) and to Caen (about 3½ hour's drive) and from Plymouth to Roscoff (about 1 hour's drive). P&O Ferries (tel: 0870 2424 999) operate services from Portsmouth to Cherbourg (about 4 hours drive from Prévasy). For a quick daytime crossing with a reasonably short drive, Condor Ferries (tel: 01305 761 551) offer a fast catamaran service from Weymouth to St Malo, leaving early in the morning. Many of the main roads in Brittany have been upgraded to near motorway standard and car travel can be very quick.

Reasonably priced flights are also available from Stanstead to Dinard with Ryanair and to Brest with Buzz (see top of previous page) from where a car can be hired. Travel times to Prévasy are approximately 1 hour from Brest and 2 hours from Dinard.

Travel to Carhaix Plouguer is also possible by train, using Eurostar to Lille, a TGV to Rennes, a mainline to Guingamp and a local service to Carhaix. Details are available from Rail Europe (tel: 0990 848 848).

Cautions
Peter and Clarissa Novak are competent and experienced field mycologists who will assist in the identification of mushrooms found on the forays and will advise guests on their edibility. Only mushrooms which are widely recognised as edible and good will be served at Prévasy. Guests should however note that wild mushrooms are not easily digestible and that some people may suffer a mild reaction even to known edible species.

The forays take place in natural woodlands and open country on a variety of surfaces and conditions, including steep gradients and uneven paths and tracks. They can be strenuous and guests will need to be in good health and reasonably fit - the holiday is not likely to be suitable for young children or for the elderly. Please let us know of any condition which might affect your ability to participate before booking. Guests should bring suitable walking shoes and outdoor clothing. We recommend that a standard travel insurance policy is taken out.

Past experience has shown that mushrooms fruit from the end of September to early November, but no guarantees can be offered regarding success in finding mushrooms on the break.
